I thought I had Heckler all figured out by reading the jacket blurb. Since the main character is a stand up comic, I was figuring a male version of Stephanie Plum. A funny book where the plot isn廠 quite as important as the character.

Once I sunk my teeth into Heckler that廣 where they stayed, stuck in this wonderfully gripping novel. I was mesmerized not only by the captivating plot but by the main character, Biff Kincaid, who seems to be a throwback to the days when investigator廣 talked a mean game and had no qualms about throwing a few punches (or getting socked by a few too).

Biff starts nosing around in a murder investigation when another comic winds up nearly dead in a hospital in Las Vegas. The casino calls Biff in to cover for Tiger Moore, without telling him a whole lot about the reason his services are needed. When he arrives for the gig, he finds out that Tiger was attacked in his room after a show by a man with a knife.

It seems Tiger isn廠 the only one being targeted. Other comedians are in danger. There廣 a psycho out there that has been branded "The Heckler" and it廣 up to Biff to figure out where and when he might strike next.

Biff uncovers a possible motive for this Heckler. He hears of a previous crime that took place years before when an unknown, no talent, comedian was brutally beaten to death in an out of the way bar. His fellow comedians stood by and let it happen. Is that supposedly long dead stand up seeking revenge for this atrocity? Who will he target next and can Biff figure out the answers before he comes face to face with this maniac廣 knife?

A four star performance for Dan Barton! Heckler is one of the most pulse pounding books I影e ever read. Do yourself a favor and buy this book the instant it hits the shelf!
