Bill Donovan is a bit too good to be true; buddies with the mayor, married to the gorgeous ex-cop, restaurateur and law student Marci, successful cop. But he sure is fun to hang out with, especially when he's with Moskowitz.

One minor thing; every single person who meets Marci simply must stop greeting her by saying "oh, you're multi-racial!" It's awfully damn rude and shows real thick-headedness on the part of the speaker. There must be a better way for Jahn to get this information across - usually it's obvious when her parents are discussed, as they usually are. At any rate, it's an annoying thud in the story.

Donovan knows anyone who's interesting in New York and in this story, we meet Dennis Yeager, skipper/owner of The Sevastopol Trader a funky oldish-newish boat in the harbor used for parties. Donovan and his wife are actually on board a cruise ship, representing New York's finest (of course, not like there aren't dozens of other cops) when he crashes Yeager's party. Marci spies friends there - supermodels represented by her mother's PR firm. There are some interesting connecting stories involving pollution of the harbor, scams used by politicians, party crashing, a lot of New York stories.

There's just a little too much coincidence in these stories; Marci and Bill just happen to know everyone, Bill just happens to be the best cop in New York, but they're enjoyable nonetheless. Bill's very smart, Mosko is a great sidekick and they're both funny and wonderfully comfortable with each other, which really matters in the story-telling here.
